Archbishop Francis Thomson, Bishop Emeritus of Motherwell This photograph shows a half-smiling Archbishop Thomson seated in formal pose indoors, with his hands crossed on his knees, dressed in his Archbishop's robes and wearing a pectoral crucifix. Archbishop Thomson died in Glasgow on 6 December 1987 aged 70 - a brief obituary and photograph are on page 424 of the Catholic Directory for Scotland for 1988, with a full obituary from pp 384 to 389 in the Catholic Directory for Scotland for 1989. Archbishop Thomson was born in Edinburgh on 15th May 1917 and was Bishop of Motherwell from 1965 to 1982. This photograph has a distinctive small white circle on the bottom left-hand corner.
