  <dc:description>This photograph shows a middle-aged Canon Clapperton in a formal studio portrait, seated in an ornate chair and gazing straight at the camera; Canon Clapperton was born in Fochabers on 19th January 1821 and ordained priest at Preshome on 12th March 1844; he was appointed resident priest in Buckie in 1857, where he remained until 1890, when failing health compelled him to retire from regular active work; when the diocese was divided into deaneries, Canon Clapperton Dean of the Deanery of St Peter's; he was afterwards promoted by the Holy See to be a member of the Cathedral Chapter but he remained familiarly known as "the Dean"; he died in Buckie on 12th May 1905, aged 84.</dc:description>
