He was the last survivor of four brothers, one being George Weld SJ, CBE, Vicar Apostolic of British Guiana and Barbados.

Fr Weld was born 2 October 1881, educated at Stonyhurst, and entered the noviceship at Roehampton in 1900. In 1904 he went to the Seminary for Philosophy. From 1906 to 1910 he taught at Beaumont and then continued at St John’s for another year. He studied his theology at Milltown Park from 1911 to 1915, being ordained at Stonyhurst in July 1914. He made his tertianship at Tullamore in 1915. In 1916, Fr Weld became Superior at Hodder and held this office until March 1924 when he was installed as Rector of Stonyhurst. In September 1929 he became Rector of Beaumont. In 1937 Fr Weld’s health broke down and in 1939 he went to Stonyhurst as Guest Master, returning to Hodder as Superior in 1941. In 1948 he went to Beaumont as Spirital Father till 1963 when he moved to Petworth. He died there, 7 March 1969, and his Requiem was held at Stonyhurst. A Requiem Mass was also celebrated at Farm Street Church, 28 March.</Nationality>
