Dublin, the fifth child of a family of nine. In 1880 he went to Beaumont. On 7 September 1889, he joined the noviciate at Manresa. As a scholastic he taught at Mount St Mary’s. He was ordained priest at St Beuno’s 31 July 1902 and finished his theology there. In 1903 and again from 1910 to 1912, and after the War from 1919 to 1921, he was at Stonyhurst, and in the years between, from 1905 to 1910, he worked in Leeds, first for a year at the Church and thereafter at the College. For a short time before the First World War he was Minister at his old school, Beaumont. He was soon, however, appointed a military chaplain, and after serving at various camps in England sailed for France in April 1915. On 17 June he was mentioned in dispatches and awarded the Military Cross in March 1918, and a Portuguese decoration came to him in 1919. In France he was first with the field ambulance at the Front and later on at Étretat in a hospital. Towards the end he was assistant principal chaplain at the Base Camp at Boulogne.

De-mobilised in April 1919, Fr Woodlock spent a few months in retreat-work at Whinney House, Gateshead and in October went once again to Stonyhurst, this time as Spiritual Father. In July 1921 he was appointed to Farm Street. Here he was in demand for conferences, retreats and sermons. In 1936 he was invited to Rome to give retreats at the English and Scots Colleges, and in 1939 he returned to give other retreats. The pace of his activity was unabating until the last year or so of his life, when his health began to break down. He became despondent and had less and less interest in his work. He died suddenly, 11 April 1939. </Nationality>
