Fr Bernard Addis SJ was born 28 February 1791, in [London], England. He made his humanities and philosophy at Stonyhurst College and entered the English Province of the Society of Jesus at Hodder on 14 October 1817. He became a Spiritual Coadjutor 15 August 1839. He made three years’ theology at Clongowes College, and was ordained Priest at Maynooth College, 1 June 1822. After serving the missions of Worcester, Lincoln, Boston, Portico, with Prescot, and Stonyhurst for short periods, he was appointed on 20 July 1829 as Assistant-Procurator and Librarian at Stonyhurst College. Similarly, in 1849 he was appointed Minister at St Beuno’s College; 1852-1859, Procurator at Mount St Mary’s College, Derbyshire; in 1860, Assistant-Missioner at Richmond, Yorkshire; and from 1863 until his retirement to the Novitiate, Manresa House, Roehampton, in 1873, he was Assistant-Missioner at Skipton, Yorkshire, and Director of the Convent there. He died at Roehampton, 1 October 1879.
