He studied for a BSc in Physical Chemistry at Liverpool University before entering the novitiate at Harlaxton on 7th September 1952 at the age of 23. His philosophy and theology studies were both done at Heythrop in Oxfordshire, with a regency of two years’ teaching at Preston Catholic College in between. He was ordained at Heythrop by Archbishop Grimshaw on St Ignatius Day in 1962 and then, after a fourth year of theology, made his tertianship at St Beuno’s under Fr Paul Kennedy. Between 1964 and 1977 he taught chemistry and RE at St Michael’s College in Leeds, also becoming chaplain when the diocese took over the running of the school from the Society in 1970. He next completed a year’s diploma in counselling at the University of Swansea, becoming a teacher of RE and a school counsellor at Preston Catholic College in 1978. He stayed in Preston for seven years, during which the College became the diocesan Newman College. In 1981 he was appointed as a Province Consultor, a position that he held for seven years, and he had a brief sabbatical in Guyana in summer 1983. In 1985 he moved to Loyola Hall in Rainhill as a team member and Superior of the community. While there he began his involvement with the Christian Life Communities, first as northern regional chaplain and then, from 1990, as national chaplain, a post that he held for a decade. That same year he had a sabbatical in Weston, Massachusetts and then, in 1991, joined the team at St Beuno’s. Between 1996 and 2005 he was Superior of the novitiate community in Birmingham, and Midlands chaplain for CLC, moving on in the latter year to Fam Street where he worked in spirituality in the newly-established Mount Street Jesuit Centre. Finally in 2012 he moved to Boscombe, where he continued to work in spirituality while assisting in the parish and the community until a few weeks before his death.</Nationality>
