Fr Edmund Costello SJ was born 29 May 1828, at Galway, Ireland. He made his humanities at Paris, and Maynooth College, Ireland, and after his theology was ordained there. He entered the English Province of the Society of Jesus at Hodder (Stonyhurst), 12 May 1852. From 1854 to 1865 he served the mission of Lowe House, St Helen’s, but was then removed to the mission of Rhyl, North Wales, due to ill health. In May 1868 he was appointed to the Norwich mission, and declared Rector of the College of the Holy Apostles (Suffolk district). Here he was appointed member of the local Board of Education. His health had long been declining, and he died 2 July 1872, in Norwich, England. He was buried in the Catholic cemetery near the city.
