He entered the English Province of the Society of Jesus 7 September 1764. He was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest, at Liege, in 1771. He was a Master the ‘Little’ College, Bruges, at the time of its destruction by the Austro-Belgic Government in 1773, and accompanied the late Jesuits to Liege, where he taught philosophy in the new English Academy established there. He was appointed to the Preston mission as assistant to Fr Nicholas Sewall SJ, and arrived there 1 May 1776, having been previously chaplain for a short time at Callaly Hall, near Alnwick (Northumberland). He may be regarded as the chief founder of the Preston mission. He built the chapel and presbytery of St Wilfrid’s, opened on 4 June 1793. He died suddenly at St Wilfrid’s, 19 November 1827. A tablet, with an inscription by Fr Charles Brooke SJ, was erected to his memory in St Wilfrid’s chapel. </Nationality>
