He left school in 1940 and joined the Indian Army, rising to the rank of major. He joined the Society in 1947 at Roehampton and took his vows there. He studied philosophy at Heythrop for one year and was transferred to Louvain, but returned to Roehampton for the third year to complete his teaching course, which all scholastics were required to do then.

In 1952 Brigstocke did a year's regency at Stonyhurst. He then went to Heythrop for theology but after a year went to Belgium again, where his ordination took place in 1956. On completing his last year of theology Brigstocke did his tertianship in St Martin d'Ablois in France. In 1958 he was appointed to Stonyhurst to teach and to take charge of a playroom. After ten years he had a year's study leave in Paris and was then sent to Wimbledon as a member of the church staff. After two years he was moved back to Stonyhurst as a chaplain to the boys at St Mary's Hall where he remained until 1978. He then spent a year on sabbatical leave in India, and on his return was appointed to the retreat staff at Loyola Hall. In 1981 he spent a year in Pakistan in retreat work and returned to Loyola Hall for the next two years.

In 1983 Brigstocke was moved to St Beuno's as a part of the retreat team and after a semester in Sri Lanka and India became superior to the community in 1987. On leaving St Beuno's he spent a semester in Morocco and then went to Harborne as a base from which to give retreats. In 1996 he returned to Loyola Hall, but by then his health was making the retreat apostolate difficult for him. He moved to Mount Street in 1997. After sudden collapse he died in hospital on 21 October 1998.</Nationality>
