He was baptised on 8 January 1905 at the Church of the Precious Blood. He was educated first at St Scholastica’s School, Clapton and afterwards at St Ignatius’, Stamford Hill, where he passed the London Matriculation and Oxford Senior Local examinations. Murray had wanted to be a Jesuit and a priest since the age of 13, and on 7 September 1921 he joined the novitiate at Roehampton. After vows he stayed at Roehampton for his Juniorate before going on to the Seminary at Stonyhurst for the first year of philosophy in 1925. The following year he continued his studies at Heythrop including a London external B.A. in 1929. Murray then taught for four years at Wimbledon before moving on to Heythrop for theology. He was ordained on 9 September 1936 by Archbishop Mostyn of Cardiff, and after his fourth year of theology he went to Tronchiennes for tertianship.

In 1938 Murray went to Mount St Mary’s where he taught until 1942. He took his final vows on 2 February 1939. The years 1942-1944 were spent teaching at Stamford Hill, and then he joined the teaching staff at Glasgow where he had a light teaching timetable which enabled him to study Law. He graduated with an LL.B at Glasgow in 1948. From 1950-1954 he taught at Manresa College, then a teaching training college, where he taught French, English and Latin. 1954-1961 he taught at Beaumont College, then moved to Mount Street where he spent the rest of his life. He suffered a heart attack on 19 August 1970 and died on 20 August 1970. His Requiem Mass was held on 26 August at Farm Street Church and he was buried the same day.</Nationality>
