Description
Journal of Law, Naval Cadet and Midshipman of the Carysfort, 1 February 1847 in Valparaiso Bay, last entry -13 March 1848 in the English Channel. An account of life as a boy on board a Navy ship in the mid nineteenth century, illustrated by ink drawings of other men on board, ships and boats, cannons, and islands which are occasionally coloured with an ink wash. There are large illustrations at the beginning of each month. At the back are doodles and lists of things to buy when he gets back to England. There are inserts of drawings of ships, people and a landscape with a bridge and cottages. A note in the handwriting of Law's father, William Towry Law has been pasted inside the front cover.
