DescriptionIreland was originally part of the Province of Great Britain and Ireland. In 1969, by decree of the Superior General, Ireland was detached from the Province and became an autonomous District of the Institute of the Marist Brothers. Its status was changed again in 1972 when it became a Vice-Province of the Institute, dependent on the Province of Great Britain, Ireland and Nigeria. In 2000, it became part of the newly created Province of West Central Europe.
