DescriptionThe Marist Brothers first came to Uturu in 1957, opening a Novitiate. At around the same time the order of the Brothers of St Peter Claver was amalgamated with the Marist Brothers, with the St Peter Claver Brothers taking their Marist Brothers vows at the Novitiate. After sheltering refugees in their compound during the Biafran War, the Marist Brothers opened a rehabilitation centre in 1971 which they named Hopeville. Later in 1973-1974 a Juniorate was also established at Uturu. Contains: Uturu Novitiate; Uturu Juniorate/Community School; Hopeville Rehabilitation Centre for Amputees; Amalgamation with Brothers of St Peter Claver
