TitleAffiliated Marists
Datec 1950s - 2016
DescriptionIn 1955 the World Union of Marist Former Pupils was established, followed by the foundation of the European Federation of Marist Former Pupils in 1958. The term 'Marist Family' was often used in conjunction with the Unions to reflect that they were not just made up of alumni - the British Federation also included Parents and Friends Associations. The World Union was dissolved in 1987 after it failed to find a new national Federation to take over the Presidency. A 'Marist Family' group continued to meet once a month in Glasgow up until the early 1990s when it had to be disbanded due to the inability to secure a Priest to provide the Mass. 'Marist Family' can also refer to the group of Marist congregations comprising of the Marist Brothers, the Marist Sisters, the Marist Fathers and the Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary. Contains: British Federation of Marist Former Pupils; World and European Unions of Marist Former Pupils; Former Pupil Marist Family activity in Scotland; Marist Family Youth Congress; Marist Family Movement; Champagnat Movement; Photographs; Marist Family (congregations)
